ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports the San Diego Chargers have reached a contract in principle with free agent S Kwamie Lassiter (Cardinals). His agent, Jim Solano, emphasized on Monday that the contract was not yet completed but the two sides hoped to finalize it later in the day. According to league sources, most of the major components are completed and the deal is believed to be a multi-year contract.

Mike Jurecki, of KDUS sports radio, interviewed Arizona Cardinals S Kwamie Lassiter during his show on Tuesday. Lassiter, the team's franchise player, said he plans to sign the team's one-year franchise tag tender sometime this week barring any last minute changes. He'll then report to training camp with the team later this week. Lassiter is hopeful of receiving a long-term deal from the team after July 15.

Entering the off-season, all four of the Cardinals starters were unrestricted free agents. S Kwamie Lassiter, the team's franchise player, and Starks are locks as starters but what about the other corner and safety positions? DB Adrian Wilson may be moved corner, but prefers to play safety. If Wilson remains at safety, David Barrett goes into camp as a starting corner. The team could manage to re-sign S Pat Tillman, too. Michael Stone also remains in the mix.

Lassiter and his agent, Jim Solano, hinted the Cardinals may franchise him. Lassiter said he'd be upset if the team did because he'd view it as a slap in the face after the team made it a priority to re-sign him.

Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic reports for the Sporting News the Arizona Cardinals appear to have set their priorities for re-signing their own free agents. The top two they want to re-sign are S Kwamie Lassiter and RT Anthony Clement. They appear poised to let RB Michael Pittman go if he is given a huge offer from another team. RB Thomas Jones showed enough improvement late last season to make coaches more comfortable that he could succeed as the starting back. Coach Dave McGinnis also likes second year RB Marcel Shipp, an undrafted rookie last year. The team is reportedly $25.5 million under the cap so they have some money to spend. They also have 28 free agents of their own to worry about.

The Cardinals have a large list of unrestricted free agents, including S Kwamie Lassiter, S Pat Tillman, RB Michael Pittman, OT Anthony Clement, CBs Corey Chavous and Tommy Knight, LB Zach Walz, TE Terry Hardy, LS Trey Junkin, QB Dave Brown and PK Cary Blanchard. Starting S Kwamie Lassiter missed the closing moments of practice with a migraine headache. LB Rob Fredricson (knee) missed practice again. He is expected to play Sunday. S Justin Lucas (ankle) did not practice at all this week and McGinnis said it is likely Lucas will miss the game on Sunday. CB Tom Knight (hamstring) is expected to play Sunday. As previously reported, WR Rob Moore (hamstring), TE Terry Hardy (shoulder), and P Scott Player (ankle) have been ruled out for Sunday’s game.
