I think it's next week from what I understand," Brockermeyer said Saturday. Len Pasquarelli for ESPN.com reports the deal signed by OT Blake Brockermeyer with the Denver Broncos last week may be very deceiving. The deal signed was for 8 years at $34.905 million total. Brockermeyer will collect his signing bonus of $700,000 and base salary this season of $650,000, but everything else is contingent upon his rehab from off-season shoulder and knee surgeries and his winning a starting position. Brockermeyer has a base salary of $650,000 in 2003 then the base salaries escalate $2.6 million every year after. The Broncos are very unlikely to pay a backup a multi-million contract annually.

ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports free agent OT Blake Brockermeyer (Bears) has reached an agreement in principle with the Denver Broncos on a seven-year deal. However, the deal is basically a one-year deal worth $1.35 million and includes a $700,000 signing bonus. He'll have a $650,000 base salary this season and could make up to $2 million through incentives. If the Broncos want to keep him long term, they'll need to pay him a $4 million option bonus next spring.

"We had talked to Blake and his agent prior to this about taking a pay cut and he mulled it over as did his agent and felt that it was in his best interest to see if he could pursue other options," GM Jerry Angelo said. "We left the door open for a possible return. I'm not ruling this as a dead issue." His release Friday freed up nearly $3 million under the salary cap. Angelo will continue to talk to agent Marvin Demoff about a new deal but said it was difficult to estimate the chances of Brockermeyer returning to the Bears. Bernard Robertson will likely replace him in the lineup, if he does not re-sign.

The Houston Chronicle reports free agent OL Jimmy Herndon (Bears), who visited Houston Wednesday, is also considering re-signing with the Bears. The Dolphins are said to be interested in him as well. He was the Chicago Bears top backup for OTs Blake Brockermeyer and James Williams. "I'd love to be here," said Herndon, who lives in Austin.
