White Sox | Could Frank Thomas join staff?

Former Chicago White Sox DH Frank Thomas said he could be interested if new White Sox manager Robin Ventura asked him to join his staff. "Interesting. I haven't had a chance to think about anything yet," Thomas said on Chicago Tribune Live. "Robin's one of my best friends in life and I'll definitely listen."

Scott Merkin, of MLB.com, reports free-agent DH Frank Thomas (Athletics) is retiring from major league baseball. "No, I'm done, I'm done," said Thomas. "I've had a great career. I've had 20 Spring Trainings, 21 Spring Trainings, and I'm happy where I'm at right now."

The Daily Herald's Barry Rozner reports Chicago White Sox general manager Kenny Williams said the door is always open for former DH Frank Thomas to return to the team and retire as a member of the White Sox. "If he felt like the time was right to come back for a day and retire with this uniform, I think everyone here wants that to happen," Williams said. "I don't know that we'd want it to be an official appearance, because then you'd have to restart the clock on his Hall of Fame status."

ESPNChicago.com reports free-agent DH Frank Thomas (Athletics) said he is almost certain that he will announce his retirement soon. "That percent right now [that he'll play again] is probably about 5 percent, since we're so deep into the season now," Thomas said. "But I'm still in shape, ready to go, if anything happens."

The Chicago Sun-Times' Carol Slezak reports free-agent DH Frank Thomas will join Comcast SportsNet's Chicago White Sox coverage next week for the series against the Chicago Cubs. Thomas will conduct player interviews, provide analysis and also do some featuring reporting during CSN's expanded pre- and post-game shows for the interleague games.

Ken Rosenthal, of FOXSports.com, reports free-agent DH Frank Thomas (Athletics) is completely healthy and frustrated that he is not receiving much interest on the free-agent market. He said that the thought of retirement has crossed his mind but he is still waiting for teams to call. Thomas has been working out for five months straight and indicated that only two teams have shown interest in him. He indicated that he is not looking for a part time role with any club. "I'm in the best shape I've been in probably the last 10 years. I didn't finish the season. I started training in September," Thomas said.
