Edgar Martinez, Barry Larkin and Fred McGriff also are new to the ballot this year. There are 26 candidates, three more than last year. Also on the ballot for the first time are Kevin Appier, Ellis Burks, Andres Galarraga, Pat Hentgen, Mike Jackson, Eric Karros, Ray Lankford, Shane Reynolds, David Segui, Robin Ventura and Todd Zeile.

Fri, 21 Dec 2007 12:59:05 -0800 Lance Pugmire, of the Los Angeles Times, reports former Major League Baseball 1B David Segui was not named in the affidavit of testimony by former P Jason Grimsley, which was unsealed on Thursday, Dec. 20. This contradicts a Los Angeles Times report in October 2006 that claimed Segui was among the names given by Grimsley that linked him to performance-enhancing drugs.

Mon, 10 Dec 2007 23:53:31 -0800 The Baltimore Sun is reporting former Baltimore Orioles 1B David Segui admitted that he used steroids and purchased shipments from former New York Mets clubhouse attendant Kirk Radomski. Segui also repeated his June 2006 admission to ESPN that he used human growth hormone with a prescription.
Sun, 18 Jun 2006 13:28:21 -0700 Former MLB 1B/OF David Segui said on ESPN's "Outside the Lines" that he used the drug HGH legally, with a doctor's prescription, because of a growth hormone deficiency in his body, and was among the players RP Jason Grimsley mentioned to federal investigators, according to the Associated Press. Segui, who retired after the 2004 season, says he continues to use HGH, after the deficiency was found when he went for blood work before surgery during his playing career. Segui said Grimsley approached him in the offseason, and asked him for advice on how HGH could help him recover from major arm surgery. Grimsley was waived by the Arizona Diamondbacks this month after acknowledging HGH use, and accusing other players of its use in a statement to federal agents. The names of other players mentioned by Grimsley have not yet been made public.
