Red Sox | David Ortiz scratched

Sun, 29 May 2016 10:11:11 -0700

Boston Red Sox 1B David Ortiz (foot) was scratched from the starting lineup Sunday, May 29, because of a possible foot injury. 1B Hanley Ramirez is serving as the designated hitter. 3B Travis Shaw is starting at first base, while 2B Josh Rutledge is starting at third base and is batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to keep an eye on the situation to see if Ortiz will need to miss multiple games. Rutledge has only two hits in his last five games and should be avoided in fantasy leagues.

Red Sox | David Ortiz takes a seat

Fri, 27 May 2016 13:24:35 -0700

Boston Red Sox 1B David Ortiz is not in the starting lineup Friday, May 27. 1B Hanley Ramirez is serving as the designated hitter, while 3B Travis Shaw moves over to first base and is batting cleanup against Toronto Blue Jays SP Aaron Sanchez. INF Marco Hernandez draws a start at the hot corner and is hitting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: It looks to be just a normal off day for Papi. Make sure to replace him in your daily lineups. Han-Ram and Shaw have been very consistent producers for Boston all year and should remain excellent plays. Hernandez is a true dart throw as a desperation flier in daily games tonight.

Red Sox | David Ortiz drives in four Tuesday

Tue, 24 May 2016 20:48:03 -0700

Boston Red Sox 1B David Ortiz went 2-for-4 with a double Tuesday, May 24, versus the Colorado Rockies. He finished with one run scored and four RBI.

Fantasy Tip: Unsurprisingly, Big Papi has been a major contributor in his final year. The double tonight was his 20th, which leads all of Major League Baseball, and the 40-year-old Ortiz is now hitting .333 with a splendid 1.099 OPS. Keep firing him up every time he's in the starting batting order.

Red Sox | David Ortiz holding off Father Time

Sun, 22 May 2016 14:32:45 -0700

Boston Red Sox DH David Ortiz reached base in all five of his at-bats Sunday, May 22, against the Cleveland Indians, going 4-for-4 - including two doubles and a solo homer - and three RBI while also drawing a walk.

Fantasy Tip: The 40-year-old Big Papi is tied for sixth in the majors in home runs with 11 and trails only behind Robinson Cano in RBI with 37. If there is one minor complaint recently, it might be the only two runs he has scored over the last eight games have come as a result of his homers. Be that as it may, Ortiz is a must-start in all leagues.

Red Sox | David Ortiz still plans to retire

Sat, 21 May 2016 07:52:02 -0700

Boston Red Sox 1B David Ortiz said he still plans to retire at the end of the season even though he is hitting over .300 with 10 home runs so far this season.

Fantasy Tip: Ortiz has gone hitless in three of his last four games but is hitting a solid .288 in May. Ortiz continues to be one of the more consistent players in the league and should be a starting option in all fantasy leagues.

Sun, 15 May 2016 09:10:08 -0700

Fantasy Tip: Ramirez and Shaw have played well and should be starters in all fantasy leagues. Rutledge has only one hit in his last nine at-bats and is not a great option for most owners.

Red Sox | David Ortiz joins rare group

Sat, 14 May 2016 18:32:58 -0700

Red Sox | David Ortiz takes a seat

Tue, 10 May 2016 12:14:10 -0700

Boston Red Sox 1B David Ortiz is not in the starting lineup against Oakland Athletics left-handed SP Sean Manaea Tuesday, May 10. 2B Josh Rutledge draws into the lineup at second base and is hitting sixth. 1B Hanley Ramirez is serving as the designated hitter and batting cleanup, while 3B Travis Shaw moves across the diamond to first base.

Fantasy Tip: Ortiz is just receiving a breather. Rutledge has seven hits in 14 at-bats but doesn't give you much hope for power, as he's never reached double-digit long balls in a single season. He's a low-end desperation play in daily leagues. Ramirez and Shaw continue to produce at a high level and are solid picks in any fantasy format this evening.

Boston Red Sox 1B David Ortiz went 2-for-4 with two solo home runs in a 5-1 win over the New York Yankees Sunday, May 8.

Fantasy Tip: Why is he retiring after the year? At 40 years old, Ortiz is still a must-start fantasy option.
