The Associated Press is reporting former major league SS Jose Offerman threw a punch at an umpire during an argument in a Dominican winter league game Saturday, Jan. 16, the second time in 2½ years that he's attacked someone on a baseball field. Offerman, manager of the Licey Tigers, appeared to hit first base umpire Daniel Rayburn in the face or neck with his fist during a heated discussion in a game against the Cibao Giants. Rayburn fell to the ground. Offerman was detained by stadium security and taken to a police station to wait until the end of the game to see if Rayburn would press charges.

The Associated Press reports IF Jose Offerman has pleaded not guilty Monday, Sept. 24, to charges that he attacked a pitcher and catcher with his bat during a minor league game. Offerman has been charged with two counts of second-degree assault after he broke a pitcher's finger and gave a catcher a concussion when he charged the mound during a game.

USAToday.com reports former All-Star IF Jose Offerman was arrested and charged with two counts of second-degree assault after he hit an opposing team's pitcher and catcher with his bat Tuesday, Aug. 14, during an independent minor league game. Offerman posted $10,000 bond and is due in Bridgeport Superior Court on Aug. 23.
