The signing won't affect the team's chances of signing free-agent OFs Johnny Damon (Rays), Raul Ibanez (Phillies) or Hideki Matsui (Athletics). However, it could be hard to re-sign 3B Eric Chavez now.

Wed, 25 Jan 2012 11:53:41 -0800 Free-agent OF Raul Ibanez (Phillies) said he is confident that he will bounce back this year after a disappointing 2011 season. Ibanez turns 40 years old June 2. He said he had a very helpful three-day hitting session with Chicago Cubs hitting coach Rudy Jaramillo in December. "It took him every bit of about 20 minutes, and he completely changed what I was doing," Ibanez says. "I consistently produced line drives, over and over again. He simplified everything for me." Ibanez also worked with Jaramillo in 2002, 2008 and 2009 but did not work out with him before last season as he was recovering from surgery.
