MLB | Fifteen newcomers on HOF ballot

According to The Baltimore Sun, Roberto Alomar is among 15 first-time candidates on this year's Hall of Fame ballot. Edgar Martinez, Barry Larkin and Fred McGriff also are new to the ballot this year. There are 26 candidates, three more than last year. Also on the ballot for the first time are Kevin Appier, Ellis Burks, Andres Galarraga, Pat Hentgen, Mike Jackson, Eric Karros, Ray Lankford, Shane Reynolds, David Segui, Robin Ventura and Todd Zeile.

Indians | Burks Hired as Special Assistant

The Associated Press reports former MLB OF Ellis Burks was hired by the Cleveland Indians as a special assistant to baseball operations. Burks will help instruct and develop players during spring training and will assist Indians general manager Mark Shapiro and his staff with personnel decisions. Burks' primary responsibility will be to work with and evaluate outfielders.
