"Bernie should be here with his bat,'' said Rivera. "He had a great year last year, and he helped us a lot. I guess that's the business side of baseball.'' Responding to a question Tuesday, Feb. 13, about his reaction to Williams not receiving a guaranteed contract, Rivera replied, "Surprised? Yes ... I think Bernie shouldn't be treated that way. But who am I to say?'' Like Williams last season, Rivera is entering the final year of his contract with the Yankees and has not had any talks of an extension despite expressing interest to stay on past this season.
