Trammell had been the leading contender to start in left field, but OF Juan Encarnacion now moves over to left field from right field. "Whatever they want me to do, I'll do," said Trammell. "I signed here knowing there was a chance I'd be a role player. If I happen to go out there and play a lot, I still think I'm one of those guys who can get you 25-30 home runs guaranteed."

"Playing in New York was fine – leaving had nothing to do with baseball," said Trammell. "The team was awesome, the city was awesome. (Manager) Joe Torre is one of the best men I've met in the game. I have no hard feelings toward anyone."

The Dodgers will pay Trammell the major league minimum of $300,000 in 2004, two baseball officials said on the condition they not be identified. The balance will be paid as part of the settlement of a grievance he filed against baseball management after the New York Yankees terminated his contract, the officials said.
