According to The Dayton Daily News's Hal McCoy, the Cincinnati Reds are considering signing Tampa Bay Devil Rays OF Bubba Trammell to replace OF Austin Kearns (arm) temporarily. Trammell is at Triple-A Durham but has a clause in his contract allowing him to sign with any major-league team if offered a deal.

The AP reports Los Angeles Dodgers OF Bubba Trammell will likely open the season coming off the bench following the announcement that OF Shawn Green will play right field and not first base to begin the season. Trammell had been the leading contender to start in left field, but OF Juan Encarnacion now moves over to left field from right field. "Whatever they want me to do, I'll do," said Trammell. "I signed here knowing there was a chance I'd be a role player. If I happen to go out there and play a lot, I still think I'm one of those guys who can get you 25-30 home runs guaranteed."

The AP's John Nadel reports Los Angeles Dodgers OF Bubba Trammell (depression) said the reason he left the New York Yankees last year after playing in just 22 games was that he was suffering from depression, and it didn't have anything to do with the team or the city. "Playing in New York was fine – leaving had nothing to do with baseball," said Trammell. "The team was awesome, the city was awesome. (Manager) Joe Torre is one of the best men I've met in the game. I have no hard feelings toward anyone."

The Associated Press reports the Los Angeles Dodgers signed OF Bubba Trammell (Yankees) to a one-year, $1.85 million contract. The Dodgers will pay Trammell the major league minimum of $300,000 in 2004, two baseball officials said on the condition they not be identified. The balance will be paid as part of the settlement of a grievance he filed against baseball management after the New York Yankees terminated his contract, the officials said.
