Seattle Mariners general manager Jack Zduriencik said the team hasn't had any contract extension talks with OF Ichiro Suzuki, who is entering the final year of his deal. It appears the team may wait until the end of the 2012 season to begin negotiations.

Updating a previous report, Seattle Mariners manager Eric Wedge is leaning toward using OF Ichiro Suzuki in the second or third spot in the batting order this season. 3B Chone Figgins is likely to lead off instead.

Seattle Mariners manager Eric Wedge said Thursday, Jan. 26, that he's still not sure if OF Ichiro Suzuki will be the team's leadoff hitter this year. Also, he said that C Miguel Olivo will be the every day catcher, which will likely push C Jesus Montero to the designated hitter spot.

Seattle Mariners OF Ichiro Suzuki has confessed to feeling "mental stress" last year after seeing his record streak of 200-hit seasons snapped at 10. Suzuki told local media he was struggling to find reasons for a drop in form which triggered some serious soul-searching for him.

Seattle Mariners manager Eric Wedge is considering moving OF Ichiro Suzuki out of the leadoff spot in the batting order, although he hasn't made a final decision. "I'm going to put out the best nine in the right order, in the order that I see fit to score as many runs as we can," Wedge said. "And if I feel like that's him leading off, then that's what we're going to do. If I feel like that's him hitting in the three-hole, that's what I'm going to do. If I feel like that's him hitting somewhere else, that's what we're going to do."

Seattle Mariners OF Ichiro Suzuki went 1-for-4 with two strikeouts Monday, Sept. 26, against the Oakland Athletics. He has two games remaining, and just 183 hits. It will be the first time in his career that he fails to reach 200 hits for the season. However, he is just one hit short of 109th place on the all-time hits list behind former Cleveland Indians OF Kenny Lofton (2,428).

Seattle Mariners manager Eric Wedge said he almost moved OF Ichiro Suzuki out of the leadoff spot earlier this year. Wedge does not consider Suzuki a lock for the leadoff spot going into the 2012 season.
