Mets general manager Jim Duquette is trying to trade Spencer, but if he cannot complete a deal in 10 days he will put him on waivers.

It's unknown what the Mets plan to do with Spencer when he returns from the disabled list. "We haven't made a final determination yet on that about his future," Mets GM Jim Duquette said. "We're still talking those details through."
Tue, 27 Jul 2004 19:36:24 -0700 The Associated Press reports New York Mets OF Shane Spencer was charged with driving under the influence early Tuesday morning, July 27, after being stopped by the Florida Highway Patrol. Spencer was clocked going 96 mph in a 70 mph speed zone on I-95 in St. Lucie County, Florida, according to the police. Spencer refused to take a breathalyzer test but otherwise cooperated with authorities. Nonetheless, he was arrested and charged with misdemeanor DUI. Spencer (foot) had been spending time in Port St. Lucie after going on the 15-day disabled list.
