"Maybe there is a possibility with everything changing and new leadership—new owners and stuff. I'm going to try to bridge that gap a little bit. Try to have him come back and throw out the first pitch and possibly sing 'Take Me Out To The Ball Game.' That would be a good start," Banks said.

Jayson Stark, of ESPN.com, reports free agent DH Sammy Sosa (Rangers) does not plan on returning to the Texas Rangers in the 2008 season. Sosa wants to have more plate opportunities and the Rangers could not guarantee him the amount of at-bats he would like after the additions of OFs Josh Hamilton and Milton Bradley. "Sammy is very grateful and thankful to Texas for giving him this opportunity and for being receptive to bringing him back this season," Adam Katz, Sosa's agent, said. "But Sammy still wants to play -- ideally in a situation where he could get 400 to 500 plate appearances. If the right situation presents itself, he's available."

The Rangers didn't offer arbitration to Sosa, but they have had some general conversations with Sosa's agent about the upcoming season, according to Rangers general manager Jon Daniels. However, Sosa's agent, Adam Katz, is trying to get a feel for Sosa's value on the free-agent market. "We haven't exchanged anything," said Daniels. "We agreed to stay in touch."

The move nearly assures him of making the opening day 25-man roster - barring any injuries. Sosa has hit three homers in spring action while batting .452 with seven RBIs. "I still have a ways to go," said Sosa. "Because I made the team doesn't mean I've got to slow down. No way."
