George A. King III, of the New York Post, reports free-agent OF Gary Sheffield (Mets) is still undecided if he wants to return for the 2010 season. "There are things on the table that I have to accept or not accept," Sheffield said. "Right now I have not made up my mind." The New York Mets have not contacted him. Sheffield said that his body is in shape and ready for the rigors of another season. "I am in tip-top shape," Sheffield said. "I am healthy and I have been working to get back to where I need to be. I am feeling great and I lost 15 pounds, down to 212."

Free-agent OF Gary Sheffield (Mets) has not yet heard from any teams, but said he wants to keep playing, according to Nick Cafardo of The Boston Globe. In order to stay in shape, he has hired a nutritionist and is undergoing a grueling workout regimen which includes mixed martial arts and boxing exercises. "I've never worked so hard in the offseason as I have this one," Sheffield said. "I'm 100 percent dedicated to my training. When people tell me I can't do something, I prove them wrong. Just like people thought I couldn't play the outfield last year. I showed them I could. My shoulder came back last year so I can make the throws from the outfield. I feel I still have value." Sheffield said he would be willing to serve as a designated hitter, but would also like to play in the field several times a week. He has 2,689 career hits, and said his family wants him to keep playing until he reaches the 3,000 hit mark.

T.R. Sullivan, of MLB.com, reports the Texas Rangers will be in search of a right-handed bat during the offseason, which could find them landing Chicago White Sox OF Jermaine Dye. Other hitters that could be of interest are Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Vladimir Guerrero, New York Mets OF Gary Sheffield, St. Louis Cardinals 3B Troy Glaus and New York Mets OF Fernando Tatis.
