The Charlotte Observer reports Carolina Panthers P Todd Sauerbrun not only acts as a kicker for the team, but also as a tackling extraordinaire. He made two tackles on Dallas Cowboys returner Ken-Yon Rambo in the last preseason game, and enjoys laying into opposing players. “This guy is running away with my punt and he’s hurting my special teams,” Sauerbrun said. “What am I supposed to do? Campo also pointed out that certain three-receiver packages might call for a different receiver. "He's real close," Campo said of Bryant earning that third spot, "but Rambo is making a statement he can be that guy, too. I think it will come down to who has the best feel for the system."

The Associated Press reports Dallas Cowboys coach Dave Campo said today WR Reggie Swinton will replace the released Wane McGarity in the lineup as a receiver and punt returner. WRs Darrin Chiaverini and Ken-Yon Rambo, both also new to the Cowboys since last season, will also get more opportunities to play. Owner Jerry Jones admitted McGarity's size and injuries were a factor in the decision to release him. Jones also said the release sends a message that the team is doing anything it can to improve now.

John Ryan reports for the San Jose Mercury News Oakland Raiders WR Marcus Knight's performance in Saturday's pre-season game may have helped his bid to secure a roster spot. Playing with the second team, he caught six passes for 61 yards, including two third-and-long catches that kept drives alive. "Marcus has as good a work ethic as anyone I've been around," coach Jon Gruden said. One of his competitors, rookie Ken-Yon Rambo had no catches and another, Alex Van Dyke, dropped the only pass that came his way in his second consecutive disappointing game. Two other competitors, Reggie Barlow and Yatil Green have struggled with injuries.

Dave Williams reports for the Press Democrat Oakland Raiders rookie WR Ken-Yon Rambo had a big 40-yard TD pass in last night's game that impressed the coaches. "Ken-Yon's a fun guy to coach, a real vibrant guy," Gruden said. "When he's focused and screwed in mentally, he can be an outstanding player." His one mistake? Rambo almost made the mistake of celebrating the TD too early, nearly losing the football before crossing the goal line. Tim Brown, Jerry Rice and Rich Gannon let him know about his mistake when he returned to the sidelines.

The Associated Press reports the Oakland Raiders defeated the Dallas Cowboys 21-14 tonight. RB Chris Howard's 8-yard touchdown run with 2:52 left broke a 14-all tie. On their first possession, the Raiders opened with a four-receiver set featuring Jerry Rice, Tim Brown, James Jett and Jerry Porter. QB Rich Gannon played for just the first series, completing 2-of-4 passes for 15 yards. For the Raiders other TDs, backup QB Bobby Hoying threw a 3-yard TD pass to TE Mondriel Fulcher and second-round pick QB Marques Tuiasosopo found fellow rookie WR Ken-Yon Rambo in the end zone with a 40-yard pass.
