Tue, 03 Oct 2006 23:25:30 -0700 The Chicago Sun-Times' Joe Cowley reports the future of Chicago White Sox bench coach Tim Raines will be decided soon, as general manager Ken Williams has given that responsibility to manager Ozzie Guillen. The rest of the coaching staff is intact for 2007. ''We don't know yet,'' Guillen said. ''I might talk to Kenny the next couple of days to see what we want, see if we're going to make any changes or stay the same. Right now there's nothing in my mind to say what we're going to do.''
Fri, 22 Sep 2006 13:17:01 -0700 Scott Merkin, of Chicago.WhiteSox.MLB.com, reports Chicago White Sox bench coach Tim Raines could be let go at the end of this season. Manager Ozzie Guillen has already stated he will bring back his entire staff for the 2007 season and beyond, however, that did not include a commitment for Raines to return next season. "Right now, it's hard for us," said Guillen. "I'm going to sit with [general manager] Kenny [Williams] and [chairman] Jerry [Reinsdorf] and see what direction we go, what we need and what we have to get done. Then we decide about it, what we are going to do." Raines was the first base coach for the 2005 version of the White Sox before being moved to bench coach this season.

"I think the Sox want to run more than last year," Raines said. "They also want to place an emphasis on running the bases, going around first base hard after a single, going from first to third, scoring from second. That can mean the difference in winning and losing games."

Raines will join the club Tuesday, Sept. 21, after the team returns to Montreal from a road trip. One of his tasks is to help tutor some of the team's young speedsters on the art of stealing bases.
