"It's tough to leave Pierre out when he's getting hits and getting on," Manuel said. "That might be the toughest thing. (Tuesday), Pierre hits off the lefty and rolls a single up the middle. He hits balls everywhere. He puts the ball in play. He definitely can do some things. That's the way it is."

Pierre is 9-for-32 (.281) and is 2-for-4 in stolen bases while Podsednik is 14-for-36 (.389) and is 5-for-5 in thefts. Podsednik also have five doubles, while Pierre has no extra-base hits. "You have to remember sometimes, like Juan Pierre, his season last year has to stand for something," manager Charlie Manuel said. "He shows you he scored 80 runs. There are such things as people getting off to a slow start in the spring. You have to wager that to a certain degree."

Pierre went 0-for-4 Friday, March 16, to drop his average to .250, while Podsednik went 1-for-3 to boost his average to .333.
