Free-agent OF Magglio Ordonez (Tigers) could return to his native Venezuela and become part-owner of a local baseball team if he doesn't find a job in the major leagues this season. He is considering purchasing shares in the Caribes de Anzoategui, although league rules would prevent him from owning a team as long as he is an active player. Ordonez, who hasn't played in a Venezuelan winter league game since 2004, has served as a recruiter and adviser for the team in recent years. He has been involved with the organization since starting there as a player in 1991.

The Oakland Athletics are still looking to sign a middle-of-the-order designated hitter but they are not addressing rumors that they are interested in free-agent OFs Manny Ramirez (Rays) or Magglio Ordonez (Tigers).

Detroit Tigers 1B Miguel Cabrera said free-agent OF Magglio Ordonez (ankle) is 70 percent healthy and has resumed running. Ordonez is hoping to be ready to participate in spring training next month.

Free-agent OF Magglio Ordonez (Tigers) has made consistent progress in his recovery from right ankle surgery, and he intends to play in 2012. Ordonez has reportedly returned to some baseball activities, and no longer requires the use of a walking boot. Ordonez will turn 38 later this month.
