Free-agent OF Magglio Ordonez (Tigers) has made consistent progress in his recovery from right ankle surgery, and he intends to play in 2012. Ordonez has reportedly returned to some baseball activities, and no longer requires the use of a walking boot. Ordonez will turn 38 later this month.

Free-agent OF Magglio Ordonez's (ankle) surgery was a success last week, and he could start his rehab as early as the end of this month. Ordonez will work with the same specialists that he worked with last year.

Former Detroit Tigers 2B Carlos Guillen and OF Magglio Ordonez (ankle) plan on playing in 2012. Ordonez had surgery on his fractured right ankle last week and will begin rehab soon.

Detroit Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski said free-agent OF Magglio Ordonez (Tigers) and 2B Carlos Guillen (Tigers) are unlikely to return to the team next year. "Magglio and Carlos — tremendous pros who've done a lot for our organization," Dombrowski said. "A couple of guys who have been integral parts. Odds are likely they won't be back." The team will make a push to re-sign 2B Ramon Santiago, but they expect other teams to be in the mix as well. RP Joel Zumaya and SP Brad Penny are also unlikely to be re-signed.
