The Browns hope, but aren't sure, that he'll be ready for the June mini-camp. "This isn't a football injury," Rhett said at yesterday's minicamp. "It's a falling-off-a-horse-injury, a car-accident injury." If he's healthy, the team might feel a little more comfortable going to training camp with a group of Rhett, Curtis Enis, Travis Prentice and mini-camp standout Jamel White. The Canton Repository reports Cleveland Browns president Carmen Policy returned from the league meetings without having TE Rickey Dudley under contract, something he expected to get done while in California. Back in Ohio Thursday, Policy said, "I’m not sure it’s gonna get done. It’s a distinct possibility but far from a done deal." The issue with Dudley seems to be the time he wants to spend in Cleveland, and not money. Policy also added it was a possibility the team would be talking to WR Jerry Rice. He would be the veteran WR they need to mentor a rather young group of current Browns WRs that includes, Dennis Northcutt, JaJuan Dawson, Kevin Johnson and Darrin Chiaverini. Policy indicated the 49ers granted the Browns permission to talk to Rice. Policy said there is a chance the Browns and 49ers could work a pre-draft trade. What is not known is what that trade would be. The 49ers have indicated a desire to trade down in the first round and the Browns pick six spots above them.

Patrick McManamon of the Akron Beacon Journal reports that two Browns to keep an eye on are S Marlon Forbes and rookie WR Darrin Chiaverini. Forbes, who is currently the team's starting strong safety, knows the Browns defense well because he played under defensive coordinator Bob Slowik in Chicago last year. Forbes has looked strong in the team's minicamps so far. As far as Chiaverini goes, "he could be our fourth receiver, but I don't want to underestimate him," Browns coach Chris Palmer said. "He is one of those guys where the ball finds him, and he will be a factor." As with Forbes, much more will be known when the pads go on -- will he still go over the middle with LB Chris Spielman ready to level him? -- but he's been as impressive as any rookie to date.
