Cubs | Eric Wedge a managerial candidate

Former Seattle Mariners manager Eric Wedge is receiving interest from the Chicago Cubs for their vacant managerial position, according to a source familiar with the situation. Wedge left the Mariners earlier this month after three seasons. The Cubs' list of managerial candidates includes A.J. Hinch, Manny Acta, Rick Renteria and Dave Martinez. Boston Red Sox bench coach Torey Lovullo is expected to be interviewed after the World Series.

The Houston Astros will interview Boston Red Sox bench coach Tim Bogar for their managerial opening Wednesday, Sept. 19. The Astros have already interviewed Tampa Bay Rays bench coach Dave Martinez and former manager Larry Bowa for the position. Houston also plans to interview Baltimore Orioles third base coach DeMarlo Hale.

Chicago Cubs executive Theo Epstein has spoken with former manager Terry Francona about the team's managerial opening, and the two will speak again to determine if he is the right fit for the Cubs. Philadelphia Phillies bench coach Pete Mackanin will interview Wednesday, Nov. 3, and Texas Rangers pitching coach Mike Maddux is also set for an interview. The Cubs will also look at Boston Red Sox coach DeMarlo Hale, Cleveland Indians bench coach Sandy Alomar Jr. and Tampa Bay Rays bench coach Dave Martinez.
