Former Cleveland Indians OF Albert Belle was at the team's spring training complex Tuesday, Feb. 28, reconnecting with members of the 1995 team. He was a controversial figure after leaving in free agency for the Chicago White Sox in 1996. "I thought the fences were already mended," Belle said. "That was a long time ago. That's the thing about free agency. It can create some bad feelings. I would have loved to play with these guys (Sandy Alomar Jr., Carlos Baerga and Kenny Lofton) another five to 10 years. It didn't work out that way. But we've all gone on to have some success."

As part of his comments on being inducted into the Cleveland Indians Hall of Fame, The Associated Press reports OF Kenny Lofton is proud of his overall stats in light of him never cheating or using steroids. "I was a guy who never did it, never tried to do it, never wanted to do it but I played against guys who obviously were doing it," he said. "I was not a cheater, so hopefully Hall of Fame voters will take a look at that and see what I did under that period and hopefully they take that into account."

Updating a previous item, The New York Post reports veteran free-agent OF Kenny Lofton denied trying to talk New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia from signing with the team. "I texted CC one time after he agreed in principle to the deal and jokingly said, 'That's a lot of money, I want some of it,' " Lofton said. "I never, never, never talked to CC before the deal. Somebody is lying about me and I don't appreciate people lying about me."
