Japanesebaseball.com reports the Seibu Lions have signed free agent IF Jeff Liefer (Cleveland Indians) to a one-year deal worth an estimated 50 million yen. Liefer spent most of the 2005 season playing with Triple-A Buffalo in the Indians' organization, where he hit .321 with 19 home runs and 68 RBI.

Updating an earlier item, the Associated Press' Janie McCauley reports the Cleveland Indians purchased IF/OF Jeff Liefer's contract from Triple-A Buffalo Tuesday, July 26. Liefer was in the starting lineup the same night as the designated hitter. He'd been tearing up Triple-A pitching to the tune of a .363 batting average, 16 home runs and 61 RBI since May 1.
