The San Diego Padres signed free-agent P Bobby Kielty (Mets), IF David Newhan (Phillies) and P Matt Riley (Dodgers) to minor league deals Thursday, Feb. 3, according to The Sports Network.

The New York Mets have cut six players from their roster, according to USA TODAY. The Mets released IF Jose Valentin, IF Junior Spivey and P Tony Armas Jr. OF Bobby Kielty and P Elmer Dessens were sent to their minor league camp and P Fernando Nieve was waived.

Florida Marlins SP Chris Volstad turned in another good spring start, according to The Palm Beach Post's Joe Capozzi. Volstad allowed three hits over five shutout innings and picked off New York Mets OF Bobby Kielty at first base, but his team still lost 10-5.
