The Miami Marlins have placed OF Austin Kearns (hamstring) on the 15-day disabled list with a hamstring injury. In a corresponding move, the team recalled OF Kevin Mattison from Triple-A New Orleans.

Miami Marlins OF Austin Kearns (hamstring) is considered day-to-day at this point but manager Ozzie Guillen said the team will be cautious with Kearns to make sure the injury is not serious.

The Miami Marlins optioned OF Bryan Peterson to Triple-A New Orleans Thursday, March 29, and assigned P J.D. Martin and INF Nick Green to minor league camp. OF Aaron Rowand was released. OFs Chris Coghlan and Austin Kearns look to have spots on the 25-man roster.

The Miami Marlins are not pursuing free-agent OF Vladimir Guerrero (Orioles). They considered it briefly, but will use OFs Austin Kearns and Aaron Rowand as their right-handed batter off the bench. Guerrero is not a good fit in the role.
