Twins | Torii Hunter to retire from baseball

Mon, 26 Oct 2015 18:09:03 -0700

Minnesota Twins OF Torii Hunter announced Monday, Oct. 26, that he is retiring from baseball after 19 seasons in the big leagues. "I've been married to the game 23 years," Hunter said. "I put it almost No. 1 in my life. My family kind of second. I made sacrifices for my family. And now it is time to give them more."

Fantasy Tip: Hunter winds up his career with a .277 average, 353 home runs and 1,391 RBIs in 2,372 games. He also finishes up with 2,452 hits, which is 112th among all players in the history of the game.

Twins | Torii Hunter could be used as reserve

Fri, 16 Oct 2015 18:43:48 -0700

The Minnesota Twins remain interested in bringing OF/DH Torii Hunter back for the 2016 season, although he would likely be used in a reserve role, with OFs Aaron Hicks, Byron Buxton and Eddie Rosario expected to serve as the club's regular outfielders.

Fantasy Tip: The 40-year-old Hunter still hasn't decided if he will come back for his 20th season and a decision is unlikely to be made before next month. He hit .240 with 22 home runs and 81 RBIs over 139 games in 2015, although he hit just .217 after the All-Star break. If he returns, Hunter would likely receive enough at-bats to still be of interest to fantasy owners in AL-only and deep mixed leagues.

Minnesota Twins OF Torii Hunter is not in the starting lineup against Kansas City Royals SP Johnny Cueto Sunday, Oct. 4. OF Max Kepler is playing right field and batting third.

Fantasy Tip: Hunter ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) is being rested since Minnesota was eliminated from playoff contention after losing to the Royals Saturday, Oct. 3, and it is uncertain if he will return for the 2016 season. Kepler ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) is 0-for-3 in his major league career.

Twins | Torii Hunter uncertain about 2016

Sat, 03 Oct 2015 10:27:07 -0700

Minnesota Twins OF Torii Hunter said he will wait until late November before making a decision on whether or not to return for the 2016 season.

Fantasy Tip: Entering play Saturday, Oct. 3, the 40-year-old Hunter ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) was batting .239 with 22 doubles, 22 homers and 81 RBIs through 139 games. However, he is only batting .215 since the All-Star break, due in large part to a stretch from July 1 to Aug. 31 where he only collected 25 hits in 154 at-bats.

Twins | Torii Hunter taking day off

Tue, 15 Sep 2015 14:30:22 -0700

Minnesota Twins OF Torii Hunter is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, Sept. 15. OF Eddie Rosario is in left field and is hitting sixth against Detroit Tigers SP Alfredo Simon.

Fantasy Tip: Rosario ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) is an attractive value play on FantasyScore against the up-and-down Simon. Six of Rosario's nine dingers in 2015 have come off right-handed pitchers.

Twins | Torii Hunter strong in Sunday game

Sun, 13 Sep 2015 22:23:28 -0700

Minnesota Twins OF Torii Hunter had a three-run homer and an RBI single in a 7-0 shutout of the Chicago White Sox on Sunday, Sept. 13.

Fantasy Tip: Hunter ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) has had a renaissance in Minnesota, enough so that he should be played in FantasyScore lineups. The Twins are in the hunt for the AL wild card and he has pennant-chase experience, so the team should rely on Hunter down the stretch.

Twins | Torii Hunter sitting vs. Royals

Wed, 09 Sep 2015 15:12:14 -0700

Minnesota Twins OF Torii Hunter is not in the starting lineup against the Kansas City Royals Wednesday, Sept. 9.

Fantasy Tip: Hunter ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) is the odd-man out of the lineup Wednesday, as the Twins now have plenty of options in their outfield with both Byron Buxton ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) and Aaron Hicks ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) healthy. Don't be surprised if Hunter sees his fair share of rest down the stretch, especially since he is having a career-worst season at age 40.

Twins | No Miguel Sano Tuesday

Tue, 08 Sep 2015 14:13:03 -0700

Minnesota Twins 3B Miguel Sano is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, Sept. 8. OF Torii Hunter is serving as the designated hitter and is batting sixth against Kansas City Royals SP Edinson Volquez.

Fantasy Tip: The veteran Hunter ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) has faded drastically in the second half of the season, and he hit an ugly .130 (9-for-69) with two home runs and nine RBI in August. There's no incentive to choose him for your FantasyScore lineups tonight until he shows us he has something left in the tank in 2015.

Twins | Byron Buxton not in the lineup

Mon, 07 Sep 2015 14:29:28 -0700

Minnesota Twins OF Byron Buxton is not in the starting lineup against Kansas City Royals SP Yordano Ventura Monday, Sept. 7. OF Aaron Hicks will start in center field and is batting first, while OF Torii Hunter will start in right field and is batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Buxton ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) likely is receiving a day off and should return to the lineup soon. Hicks ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) and Hunter ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) could be solid options on FantasyScore but are not must-start players.

Twins | Torii Hunter not starting Saturday

Sat, 05 Sep 2015 15:32:23 -0700

Minnesota Twins OF Torii Hunter is not in the starting lineup Saturday, Sept. 5, against the Houston Astros. OF Aaron Hicks is leading off against Astros SP Lance McCullers.

Fantasy Tip: Hunter ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) is hitting the long ball with 18 homers this season, but his power -- and average -- have vanished as of late. His .077 mark in the last week has him sitting more often, including this game. Hicks ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) is a much better hitter against lefties, so leave him on the bench.
