The Houston Chronicle's Brian McTaggart reports Houston Astros OF Richard Hidalgo is happy to have earned a second chance with the team where he earned his best numbers. Hidalgo is back in camp as a non-roster invitee. "I'm going to go out there and do my thing," Hidalgo said. "They know what I can do. You have to show them now, because I didn't play last year. I'm trying to do my best right now."

The Houston Chronicle's Jose De Jesus Ortiz reports the Houston Astros are close to a minor-league deal to bring back free-agent OF Richard Hidalgo, who last played for the Texas Rangers in 2005 and was the Astros team MVP in 2003. The deal would include an invitation to spring training and a chance to compete with OF Luke Scott and OF Jason Lane in right field. No finances were announced.
