Toronto Blue Jays DH Vladimir Guerrero went 1-for-4 in an extended spring training game Monday, May 21. "I think we'll have a better read on his situation come Wednesday, whether additional time is needed in extended (spring)," manager John Farrell said.

Toronto Blue Jays DH Vladimir Guerrero is expected to begin playing in extended spring games later this week. "Right now it's all about getting in shape," Guerrero said. "Even though I was doing a lot of BP in the Dominican and continue to do it here, the first thing will be to start facing live pitchers."

Toronto Blue Jays DH Vladimir Guerrero will report to extended spring training Monday, May 14, or Tuesday, May 15. He must undergo a physical before getting on the field, and it's unlikely he'll be promoted to the bigs until early June at the earliest.

Toronto Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos said DH Vladimir Guerrero isn't guaranteed to come up to the big leagues, and if he does, it likely won't happen until June. "We're not adding anybody to the major league roster," Anthopoulos said. "This isn't someone right now that we're prepared to say is going to be up in Toronto. I have no idea how he's going to look, how's he going to perform, how he's going to play. ... There is no risk and no downside and at a minimum it provides depth. Certainly, there's the upside that he could play very well and be a factor for us." The team has not seen Guerrero and don't have any idea of what kind of shape he's in.

Toronto Blue Jays DH Vladimir Guerrero, who will make $1.3 million this year prorated to his time spent in the majors, will report to extended spring training for the time being. He could eventually serve as the team's designated hitter with 3B Edwin Encarnacion at first base if 1B Adam Lind continues to struggle.

Arizona Diamondbacks general manager Kevin Towers watched free-agent OF Vladimir Guerrero (Orioles) in a workout Monday, April 30, in the Dominican Republic. The GM was pleased with what he saw, but wants to review it to see if it makes sense for the team. "He's still got the good hitting hands," Towers said. "He's in decent shape. We hit him a few fly balls. He probably took 30 or 40 swings for us. Launched 15 to 20 balls out. Not bad. But we've got to see if it makes sense or not." If the team used Guerrero, it might only be temporary, similar to how they used OF Wily Mo Pena as a designated hitter in interleague play last season.

Free-agent DH Vladimir Guerrero (Orioles) has worked out for the Arizona Diamondbacks, Cleveland Indians, Kansas City Royals and Tampa Bay Rays in the Dominican Republic. The D-backs, who seem the most interested, could use Guerrero occasionally in the outfield.
