Richard Durrett, of ESPNDallas.com, reports the Texas Rangers have named Thad Bosley, Rusty Greer, Clint Hurdle and Gerald Perry as the finalists for their hitting coach position. All four candidates are scheduled to be interviewed Monday, Nov. 2, but no deadline has been set for a decision.

The team could consider candidates such as first base coach Gary Pettis, minor league hitting coordinator Mike Boulanger, former MLB OF Rusty Greer, Detroit Tigers hitting instructor Toby Harrah, former MLB 1B Eddie Murray, former hitting coach Thad Bosley, former hitting coach Dave Hudgens and free-agent manager Clint Hurdle (Rockies).

Sports Network reports OF Rusty Greer announced his retirement from baseball Sunday, Feb. 20. The 36-year-old Greer played nine years with the Texas Rangers and has been sidelined by injuries the past few years. He last played in 2002. He considered making another comeback attempt this season, but decided it was in the best interests of his family to officially retire.
