Former Arizona Diamondbacks OF Luis Gonzalez had his No. 20 jersey retired by the team Saturday, Aug. 7, according to The Associated Press.

The Arizona Republic reports the Arizona Diamondbacks have announced that former OF Luis Gonzalez will retire officially from baseball and rejoin the organization as special assistant to the front office. Gonzalez will assist team president Derrick Hall and other departments throughout the organization in his new role.

Former Arizona Diamondbacks OF Luis Gonzalez is close to rejoining the organization in a yet-to-be-determined role, according to The Associated Press. "He would do a potpourri - business, help minor leagues, etc.," team president and CEO Derrick Hall said in a text message.

He said he would like to return to the Florida Marlins, but also welcomes the opportunity to be a designated hitter in the American League. Gonzalez also said that he may consider retirement.
