The conversation was about Everett's frustration with a lack of playing time, and neither Everett nor Hargrove would discuss the matter afterwards.

Doug Miller, of Mariners.MLB.com, reports Seattle Mariners manager Mike Hargrove almost started OF Matt Lawton Saturday, April 15, at the designated hitter spot. He decided to go with OF Carl Everett instead because Everett had better career numbers against Boston Red Sox SP Tim Wakefield. Hargrove also felt it would not be fair to Lawton to have his first at-bats of the 2006 season against a knuckleball pitcher.

The Chicago Tribune reports former Chicago White Sox and current Seattle Mariners OF Carl Everett still harbors resentment about being released by the team after the 2003 and 2005 seasons. "If I'm bitter at anybody it's Kenny Williams, and he knows it simply because how he handled 2003 and last year," Everett said.
