Former MLB OF Darin Erstad announced Thursday, June 17, that he is retired from professional baseball, according to The Orange County Register's Sam Miller.

Bill Plunkett, of The Orange County Register, reports free-agent OF Darin Erstad (Astros) is comfortable with the idea of retiring. "I'm at peace with whichever way it goes," said Erstad. "Things can happen in a hurry. I'm just staying in shape and keeping an open mind to anything."

MLB.com's Alyson Footer reports Houston Astros 1B Lance Berkman (back, hip) and OF Darin Erstad (shoulder) are out of the lineup Tuesday, Sept. 15. Berkman is dealing with back and hip issues and Erstad is suffering from a sore right shoulder.

Houston Astros OF Darin Erstad (hamstring) will be joining Double-A Corpus Christi in San Antonio Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug. 4 and Aug. 5, for a brief rehab assignment. Erstad has been on the DL since Sunday, July 19, with a strained left hamstring.

Jose de Jesus Ortiz and Richard Justice, of the Houston Chronicle, report Houston Astros OF Darin Erstad (hamstring) expects to be activated from the disabled list when he is eligible. "From what I have experienced myself, two weeks should be good," Erstad said. "In my role, it's not like I'm playing every day anyway. Just to be able to pinch hit, I just can't imagine that it won't be ready in two weeks."
