He is expected to miss all of 2008, if not more.

Encarnacion is expected to return to St. Louis to be examined by a retinal specialist within the next two weeks.

Derrick Goold, of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, reports St. Louis Cardinals OF Juan Encarnacion (eye) visited with an eye specialist in Boston Sunday, Sept. 16, and is considering treatments for his eye injury. Encarnacion has reported improving eyesight and is feeling better, but still has yet to schedule surgery to repair any possible damage to his optic nerve.

ESPN.com reports St. Louis Cardinals OF Juan Encarnacion (eye) has been released from the hospital, however, there is still no date scheduled for surgery on his fractured left eye socket. "He's still dealing with post-concussion syndrome," team trainer Barry Weinberg said. "Even though his eye is the major long-term concern, right now he's dealing with a serious concussion. ... He still has those side effects. The combination of the eye and the concussion ... is significant."
