Richard Durrett and Todd Archer, of the Dallas Morning News, report the Dallas Cowboys decided to keep LS Jon Condo as their long snapper this year over veteran TE/LS Jeff Robinson due to their salary cap figures. Condo is scheduled to make $230,000 this season while Robinson, who has since been released by the club, was scheduled to earn $1.1 million and count $1.3 million against the 2005 salary cap.

Updating a previous report, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports even though Dallas Cowboys LS/TE Jeff Robinson had an "excused absence" from practice Friday, May 27 the team asked him to stay away. The Cowboys wanted to try out other long snappers because Robinson carries a $1.1 million price tag in 2005.

He was unable to be contacted by the NFL in a timely manner about his selection to the team, because he was vacationing in New Zealand. Robinson will be replaced by San Francisco 49ers LS Brian Jennings.

The Star Telegram reports there are people other than Dallas Cowboys head coach Dave Campo on the hot seat. Some players could be in their final season with the Cowboys as a result of salary issues: FB Robert Thomas ($1 million), TE Tony McGee ($755,000), WR Raghib Ismail ($4 million), TE Jeff Robinson ($1.1 million) and CB Dwayne Goodrich ($437,000). The players aren't necessarily going to be cut, but could all be asked to restructure their contracts if they want to stay in Dallas. The Cowboys are approximately $5 million under the salary cap for 2003.

The move has little to do with the signing of free agent TE Jeff Robinson. The former Washington tight end just didn't fit the scheme offensive coordinator Bruce Coslet will run. He wants a TE who is a load as a blocker, and Alexander is not that guy.

DallasCowboys.com reports even with the signing of Jeff Robinson, the Dallas Cowboys are still looking for a starting tight end. It appears they've cooled on TE Ken Dilger after a poor physical over the weekend in Indianapolis. The team's doctors checked out Dilger and a multitude of injuries. That could put free agent TE Stephen Alexander (Redskins) at the front of the race. He's expected to meet with the team sometime this week.

The Post Dispatch reports the St. Louis Rams will look to retain most of their key free agents this off-season. The team has 16 restricted or unrestricted free agents which is about 30 percent of their roster. Only three players in that group are starters: DE Chidi Ahanotu, LB London Fletcher and FB James Hodgins. Several of their free agents are key reserves: DE Leonard Little, WR/PR Az-Zahir Hakim, WR Ricky Proehl and TE Jeff Robinson. The Rams will focus on their own this off-season and not pursue other free agents. "We're in a situation where the key is going to be retaining players," Zygmunt said. "We're going to be dealing with our own (free agents) and that's basically going to be it."

Player personnel coordinator Scott Studwell will now run the college scouting department and handle the team's draft preparation. Coordinator of pro scouting Paul Wiggin will return to full time and take charge of professional scouting and free-agent evaluations. Coordinator of pro personnel Jeff Robinson will work with Wiggin. The team will look to hire an assistant on the pro personnel side.

ORT Ryan Tucker (shoulder/hand) is likely to be replaced by Rod Jones for the second straight game. Tucker may dress once again and serve as a backup. The Associated Press reports the St. Louis Rams defeated the Miami Dolphins 17-10 in tonight's Hall of Fame pre-season game. Rams No. 4 QB Marc Bulger threw a 3-yard TD pass to TE Jeff Robinson for the winning score. No. 2 QB Joe Germaine was 11-of-13 and ran for a TD. Rams backup RB Trung Canidate caught four passes for 77 yards and also rushed for 26 yards before leaving the game injured. Dolphins RB Lamar Smith's 2-yard TD run was Miami's only TD.

Jim Thomas reports for the Post-Dispatch after spending Saturday focusing on defense in the NFL Draft, the St. Louis Rams turned their Sunday focus to offense. Three of their four selections Sunday were offensive players, including two WRs. The WRs were Milton Wynn of Washington State and Francis St. Paul of Northern Arizona. They also added TE Brandon Manumaleuna of Arizona. Manumaleuna begins his NFL career behind starter Ernie Conwell and top backup Jeff Robinson on the depth chart. The Rams took their only defensive player of the day in the fifth round, CB Jerametrius Butler of Kansas State.

As a follow up to an earlier story, the Star Tribune reports the Minnesota Vikings have indeed promoted OL coach John Tice and DBs coach Willie Shaw to assistant head coaches. Tice now says he will not leave the Vikings unless he has a chance at a head coaching spot. Coach Dennis Green gave added responsibility to former scout Jeff Robinson, who is now the coordinator of pro personnel. Inside linebackers coach Richard Solomon, meanwhile, was given the additional title of director of pro personnel. Special teams coach Gary Zauner's title was changed to special teams coordinator.
