Burnitz hit 315 home runs while playing for seven different teams over his 14-year career. Burnitz had been thinking about retiring for the last several years, according to the agent, and did not receive any contract offers this offseason.

Burnitz hit a solo shot off Brewers SP Ben Sheets in the second inning and then hit a three-run home run in the eighth inning of Brewers SP David Bush, who relieved Sheets in the eighth inning and took the loss. Burnitz has 14 home runs so far in the 2006 season.
