Michael Eisen, of Giants.com, reports New York Giants recently-acquired TE Tony McGee will suit up for Sunday's, Dec. 7, game against the Washington Redskins if TE Jeremy Shockey (knee) is unable to play. Head coach Jim Fassel said Shockey is doing better, but he does not believe will be able to play this week.

With injuries to Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten (jaw) and James Whalen (hamstring), free agent TE Tony McGee is needed to fill in at tight end. McGee, who is expected to sign Tuesday, Oct. 7, was one of the final cuts of camp and was let go only because of a roster squeeze elsewhere. He will sign for the rest of the year, but Witten's injury is not too severe.

"I like to have a little difference in style (among the tight ends), and coincidentally we have that here,” head coach Bill Parcells said. “You like to have a tight end that could do certain things and another one that you could feature doing something else, and I think with the combination of McGee, Whalen, Campbell and Witten, that we're going to have some versatility at the position. I've never kept four tight ends on my team before. But I'm willing to change things."

The Star Telegram reports there are people other than Dallas Cowboys head coach Dave Campo on the hot seat. Some players could be in their final season with the Cowboys as a result of salary issues: FB Robert Thomas ($1 million), TE Tony McGee ($755,000), WR Raghib Ismail ($4 million), TE Jeff Robinson ($1.1 million) and CB Dwayne Goodrich ($437,000). The players aren't necessarily going to be cut, but could all be asked to restructure their contracts if they want to stay in Dallas. The Cowboys are approximately $5 million under the salary cap for 2003.

"If he's healthy," Cowboys coach Dave Campo said, "then Tony McGee helps us a ton." In addition to his pass catching abilities, McGee's blocking skills will also be of utmost importance. He has an incentive clause in his contract that kicks in with only 15 catches that pays him an extra $150,000 this season.

He will be limited at next week's QB school because of a knee injury that forced him to miss five games last season. "Tony brings a wealth of experience to this offense," said offensive coordinator Bruce Coslet. His base salary starts at $650,000 this season, with a pair of $750,000 bases in 2003 and 2004. Updating Thursday's reports, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports Cincinnati Bengals TE Sean Brewer is the man to beat out at tight end for the team. Brewer was promoted to the starting role on Thursday when the team released veteran TE Tony McGee. He had a groin injury during training camp last year and spent the year on injured reserve. Head coach Dick LeBeau said that Brewer is 100 percent healthy now. Rookie TE Matt Schobel is expected to challenge for the starting job.

TE Tony McGee (sprained MCL) is done for the remainder of the year and the team was forced to stick with only single-TE sets on Sunday after he was injured. Brad St. Louis, who is primarily a long snapper that sees time on short yardage and goal-line situations, replaced McGee after he was injured on Sunday. The team doesn't have any pure tight ends on roster right now.

The Columbus Dispatch reports Cincinnati Bengals TE Tony McGee (knee) twisted a knee in warm-ups on Sunday but played the entire game even though he said it affected his stride when he ran routes. He got a cortisone shot Monday and expects to play this week. QB Jon Kitna said he will not shy away from McGee even though he's had a few passes bounce off his hands, including two or three last week in Jacksonville.
