No candidates received the required 75 percent of the vote in order to be elected into Major League Baseball's Hall of Fame Wednesday, Jan. 9. Many of the first-time candidates such as Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Sammy Sosa and others have been linked to performance-enhancing drugs.

Giants | Buster Posey wins NL batting title

San Francisco Giants C Buster Posey won the National League batting title with a .336 average. He becomes the first Giants player since Barry Bonds in 2004 and the first National League catcher since 1942 to win the title.

The $254 million contract signed by Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 1B Albert Pujols contains two bonus markers. Pujols gets a $3 million bonus for his 3,000th career hit and a $7 million bonus should he reach 763 career homers and break the record set by San Francisco Giants OF Barry Bonds.

MLB | Barry Bonds decision expected Friday

A decision on whether former Pittsburgh Pirates and San Francisco Giants OF Barry Bonds will be sentenced for perjury is expected to come down at 2 p.m. Eastern time on Friday, Dec. 16. Bonds is not expected to get any jail time.

MLB | Feds asking for Barry Bonds trial delay

Federal prosecutors are asking for a two-month postponement of Barry Bonds' next court date. The government was expected to announce at a Friday, June 24, hearing whether it intended to retry Bonds on three perjury charges a jury deadlocked on after a month-long trial in April, but they now want the delay. A judge was to set a sentencing date on Friday. His lawyers have filed legal papers asking that Bonds' conviction be tossed out.

Major League Baseball commissioner Bud Selig said he is not considering making changes to former OF Barry Bonds' records after he was convicted for obstruction of justice last week, according to The Associated Press. Bonds has the most career home runs (762) and holds the record for most single-season homers (73).

MLB | Barry Bonds' messages to mistress released

Federal prosecutors released transcripts and recordings of voicemail messages former San Francisco Giants OF Barry Bonds left for his former mistress during their nine-year relationship, according to The Associated Press. Most of the messages show Bonds angrily inquiring after Kimberly Bell's whereabouts. Prosecutors say the recordings and transcripts are evidence of Bonds' steroid use because the drugs supposedly induce rage in some users.

Former MLB OF Barry Bonds plead not guilty for the fourth time to charges that he lied to a grand jury when he denied knowingly taking steroids, according to The Associated Press. He is facing four charges of perjury and one count of obstruction. Bonds' trial is set to begin March 21.

Federal prosecutors cut the number of felony charges former major-league OF Barry Bonds faces from 11 to five, according to CBSSports.com. They reduced from nine to three the number of charges alleging Bonds lied under oath when he testified that he never knowingly took performance enhancing drugs. He is also charged with making false statements for telling the grand jury that no one other than his doctor ever stuck a needle in his body and a catch-all charge that he obstructed the grand jury's investigation into sports doping with his allegedly misleading testimony.
