MLB | Witness list disclosed for Barry Bonds trial

The witness list for the perjury trial involving former San Francisco Giants OF Barry Bonds has been disclosed, according to The Associated Press. The list includes former baseball players Bobby Estalella, Armando Rios, Marvin Benard, Benito Santiago, Randy Velarde and Jason Giambi's brother, Jeremy Giambi. Estalella is expected to testify that Bonds told him he used steroids. The prosecutors will call the other retired players and former football player Larry Izzo to the witness stand to discuss their steroid use.

Sports Network reports the Toronto Blue Jays signed free agent OF Marvin Benard to a minor league contract Tuesday, May 18. Benard will report to Triple-A Syracuse. Prior to being signed, he was with the Atlantic City Surf of the independent Atlantic League. He also spent time in Spring Training with the Chicago White Sox.

USA TODAY reports the Chicago White Sox released OF Marvin Benard (calf) from his minor-league contract Wednesday, deciding they couldn't wait for his injured calf to heal. Benard strained his left calf early in camp and recently was told that Saturday was the earliest he could begin running.
