Mon, 29 Apr 2013 15:57:45 -0700 St. Louis Cardinals OF Carlos Beltran (illness) remains out of the lineup Monday, April 29, due to an extended illness. However, he'll likely be available to pinch hit if needed.
Fri, 05 Apr 2013 00:04:01 -0700 San Francisco Giants SP Barry Zito has had success against two of the St. Louis Cardinals' biggest power threats, OF's Carlos Beltran and Matt Holliday. Beltran is hitting just .229 in 50 plate appearances, while Holliday has posted a .206 average in 38 plate appearances against Zito.
Tue, 26 Mar 2013 15:57:09 -0700 St. Louis Cardinals OF Carlos Beltran (toe) played six-plus innings Tuesday, March 26, and had a single, two walks and a stolen base. He expects his fractured right small big toe to give him pain for some time, but he didn't have any limitations Tuesday. "He promised me that he was fine," manager Mike Matheny said afterward. "He ran really hard on that first ground ball and turned around and smiled at me. I think he was happy to get back in there. My concern wasn't as much (hitting) as watching his movements. He was running well." Beltran plans to play on his injured toe as long as the pain is tolerable. Fantasy Tip: You can't like the fact that Beltran is already injured heading into the season opener if you own him. However, he appears fine, and the team wouldn't be letting him play if it was a major concern. Oscar Taveras is still in camp for a reason, though, and he might be ready to step in if Beltran needs time to rest. Taveras is worth selecting in the late rounds in mixed formats.

Sun, 24 Mar 2013 23:01:38 -0700 St. Louis Cardinals OF Oscar Taveras, who was originally supposed to go to Triple-A, has instead remained with the parent club entering the final week of camp. The team is waiting to see if OF Carlos Beltran (toe) will be able to play before it rules on Taveras, who could open the season with the parent club.
Sat, 23 Mar 2013 12:13:49 -0700 St. Louis Cardinals OF Carlos Beltran (toe) was not in the starting lineup for the team's spring training game Saturday, March 23, because of a toe injury. Manager Mike Matheny said he is not worried about Beltran's status for opening day at this point. Fantasy Tip: Owners will have to keep an eye out on this situation because there may be a chance Beltran sits out a few regular season games because of the injury.
Fri, 22 Mar 2013 06:34:50 -0700 St. Louis Cardinals OF Carlos Beltran (toe) said he has been bothered by a right toe injury throughout the World Baseball Classic, and it's still sore while swinging from the right side.
Sat, 02 Mar 2013 18:54:29 -0800 St. Louis Cardinals OF Carlos Beltran (toe) did not play in the team's spring training game Saturday, March 2, because of a big right toe injury.
