Mon, 16 Jan 2012 16:18:18 -0800 St. Louis Cardinals OF Carlos Beltran is optimistic that he will be healthy in 2012 after undergoing surgery on his knee in January of 2010. "Right now he says he feels great, and the doctors have confirmed that he looks good," manager Mike Matheny said. "It's going to be a juggling act to see how he progresses through the spring. Spring is really a good test."
Mon, 16 Jan 2012 14:45:19 -0800 St. Louis Cardinals OF Carlos Beltran could hit second in the team's lineup this year depending upon the health of his legs. Manager Mike Matheny hasn't decided on a set lineup and prefers to evaluate his players in spring training. OF Jon Jay could also hit second.
Wed, 28 Dec 2011 01:46:04 -0800 St. Louis Cardinals OF Carlos Beltran is pegged to hit second in the lineup, according to manager Mike Matheny. Beltran would hit behind SS Rafael Furcal and ahead of 1B Lance Berkman and OF Matt Holliday in Matheny's projected lineup.
Tue, 27 Dec 2011 06:07:48 -0800 Updating previous reports, OF Carlos Beltran offered to sign with the New York Yankees for the two-year, $26 million deal he signed with the St. Louis Cardinals, but the Yankees declined.
Fri, 23 Dec 2011 09:07:19 -0800 St. Louis Cardinals OF Carlos Beltran will start in right field for the team, but he could play some center field occasionally when OF Allen Craig (knee) returns to the lineup. OF Jon Jay could be benched against left-handed pitchers. "He'll get playing time out there," general manager John Mozeliak said. "Obviously I think early on, he'll see more playing time in right field. From a scouting standpoint, what our scouts saw last year gave us some confidence. But yes, there certainly had to be some effort reviewing his medicals. All of that gave us confidence that this was doable."
Fri, 23 Dec 2011 08:53:50 -0800 The New York Yankees initially pursued St. Louis Cardinals OF Carlos Beltran as an upgrade over OF Nick Swisher. However, they balked at further pursuit because of his knees, which they felt were in similar condition to free-agent DH Hideki Matsui's.
Fri, 23 Dec 2011 06:01:09 -0800 The Cleveland Indians made an aggressive offer very close to the two-year, $26 million deal OF Carlos Beltran agreed to with the St. Louis Cardinals. Beltran preferred the Cardinals.
Thu, 22 Dec 2011 20:40:56 -0800 Updating a previous report, the St. Louis Cardinals have signed OF Carlos Beltran to a two-year deal worth $26 million. The contract also includes a full no-trade clause.
Thu, 22 Dec 2011 17:10:26 -0800 The St. Louis Cardinals agreed to a two-year deal with free-agent OF Carlos Beltran (Giants) Thursday, Dec. 22. Financial terms of the deal weren't disclosed. Fantasy Tip: With Lance Berkman moving to first base full time in 2012 to replace the void left by Albert Pujols, Beltran is expected to start in right field. St. Louis wanted insurance at that spot with Allen Craig's (knee) availability for the start of the season in question. Beltran is a risky 20-homer commodity based on his age and injury-prone ways; his BA will come down, too. Craig's power ceiling is intriguing, but limited PT will keep his value down - perhaps as a solid OF depth piece; especially in NL-only leagues.
Thu, 22 Dec 2011 12:17:41 -0800 Free-agent OF Carlos Beltran (Giants) has narrowed down his list of teams to the St. Louis Cardinals, Cleveland Indians and Toronto Blue Jays.
