Cardinals | Agree with Carlos Beltran

Thu, 22 Dec 2011 17:10:26 -0800

The St. Louis Cardinals agreed to a two-year deal with free-agent OF Carlos Beltran (Giants) Thursday, Dec. 22. Financial terms of the deal weren't disclosed.

Fantasy Tip: With Lance Berkman moving to first base full time in 2012 to replace the void left by Albert Pujols, Beltran is expected to start in right field. St. Louis wanted insurance at that spot with Allen Craig's (knee) availability for the start of the season in question. Beltran is a risky 20-homer commodity based on his age and injury-prone ways; his BA will come down, too. Craig's power ceiling is intriguing, but limited PT will keep his value down - perhaps as a solid OF depth piece; especially in NL-only leagues.
