Former NFL SS Darren Woodson said that players in the league today are not good tacklers. Woodson feels players are looking to make big plays rather than display proper technique. "Look at the Packers and how they tackle," Woodson said. "They are terrible. It's the worst I've ever seen in my life. I love Charles Woodson, but it's either the spectacular play or the guy's getting an extra six or seven yards. They are all trying to make that big play."

Todd Archer, of the Dallas Morning News, reports the Dallas Cowboys may re-sign retired S Darren Woodson, if they make the NFC playoffs. Saturday, Dec. 31, Woodson cleared waivers after the Cowboys released him from the reserve/retired list, opening the way for him to return. The Cowboys would not be able to sign Woodson had they not made the procedural move.

Dallas Cowboys S Darren Woodson (back) will not practice this week as the window for his potential return from offseason back surgery continues to narrow, reports Rob Phillips of DallasCowboys.com. The Cowboys reinstated Woodson for practice Nov. 8 after the veteran safety spent the first six weeks of the season on the physically-unable-to-perform list while he recovered from July surgery to repair a herniated disk. Since the Cowboys declared him eligible to practice, they were given a three-week roster exemption, which expires Nov. 30. By then the Cowboys must either activate Woodson or place him on Injured Reserve for the season.

That date is the deadline players on PUP must start practicing before teams are forced to put them on Injured Reserve. Parcells said that he still isn't certain Woodson will be able to play at all this season even he is able to begin working out.

The leg problem might delay Woodson's return to the field or keep him sidelined for the remainder of the season. The team had placed Woodson on the PUP list, which allows Woodson to be eligible to return after six weeks. The Cowboys will then have a three-week period to determine if they want to activate Woodson or place him on Injured Reserve.

"He started a little slow this summer, but I'm really encouraged about what I see there," coach Bill Parcells said of Dixon. "Obviously I'm rooting for him. I'm starting to see a real understanding, a real 'OK, this is the way you do it.' And I saw three or four plays in (practice Friday, Oct. 1) that he made that last year at this time he wouldn't have made." Dixon had a breakout game last week, recording six tackles, two sacks, a forced fumble and a pass deflection versus the Washington Redskins.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports the NFL has fined Dallas Cowboys safety Darren Woodson $7,500 for his hit on Pittsburgh Steelers WR Khori Ivy during the Aug. 21 pre-season game. Woodson was not penalized on a play that left Ivy with a concussion. "Those things are going to happen," Woodson said. "I'm a physical player. That's the way I look at it, and I'm sure that the receivers look at it that way, too. ... If anybody should be fined, it should be the quarterback for staring at the receiver so long." Woodson, who has now been fined four times within the past year, said he would appeal the fine.
