Abreu is expected to look for another job with another team, according to a source. The Phillies haven't officially released him, but keeping him in their organization doesn't appear to be an option. The New York Mets and Cleveland Indians have expressed some interest in him before he signed with the Phillies.

Philadelphia Phillies OF Bobby Abreu remains in the running for a bench job despite the fact he is hitting .214 during Grapefruit League spring play. He does have a team-high nine walks, and a .421 on-base percentage. "You know, he gives quality at-bats," manager Ryne Sandberg said Wednesday, March 19. "He's drawn a lot of walks. In some regards, the walks, he hasn't had a chance to swing and get hits in those at-bats. Bur he's on base and he has good at-bats and he continues to do that, so that's a good thing."

Updating a previous item, the Philadelphia Phillies signed OF Bobby Abreu to a minor league deal with an invite to spring training Tuesday, Jan. 21. Abreu had 2,437 career hits, 287 home runs and 399 stolen bases in 17 seasons with the Phillies, Houston Astros, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers.
