Free-agent SS Jack Wilson (Braves) announced his retirement Tuesday, Sept. 25. "My wife Julie and our kids and I made that decision together, that this season was going to be my last," Wilson said. "We're retiring officially, right after the Braves win the World Series."

Atlanta Braves SS Jack Wilson (pinkie) said he will receive a cortisone shot Sunday, Aug. 19, and is hoping to return to the team by Sept. 1. Wilson is not able to grip a bat or ball at this point because his knuckle is swollen but hopes the shot and rest will allow him to resume his rehab assignment next week.

Atlanta Braves SS Andrelton Simmons (pinkie) has started therapy for his broken right pinkie finger and is hoping to be cleared for baseball activities soon. "I can pretty much do everything with it," Simmons said. "It's still a bit sore. I have to stretch it out a bit still, but it feels great." SS Jack Wilson (pinkie), OF Matt Diaz (thumb) and C Christian Bethancourt (hand) were all scheduled to visit with team doctor Dr. Gary Lourie Monday, Aug. 13.

Atlanta Braves SS Jack Wilson (finger) left the game Friday, July 13, against the New York Mets due to an apparent finger injury. He was injured trying to field a grounder. He was tended to by a trainer, and then he headed to the dugout.

Atlanta Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said the team is still trying to decide whether to call up a shortstop from Triple-A Gwinnett to replace injured SS Andrelton Simmons (hand) or trade for a shortstop. Gonzalez did say SS Jack Wilson will start at shortstop Friday, July 13.
