Atlanta Braves SS Jack Wilson was robbed of his first home run since 2009 by New York Mets OF Jason Bay, who leaped and made a catch above the yellow line Monday, April 16. The two were teammates in Pittsburgh. "I'll text him later," Wilson said. "It won't be pleasant."

Atlanta Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said the battle for the shortstop job could come down to the final day between SSs Tyler Pastornicky and Andrelton Simmons. Simmons has hit .205 in 13 spring games and Pastornicky is hitting .220 after getting hits in five of his last six games. Gonzalez realizes that neither player will be expected to be an offensive force this year. SS Jack Wilson could see significant time at the position if either youngster struggles mightily in the regular season.

Atlanta Braves SS Jack Wilson (calf) said he is well ahead of schedule in his recovery from a strained left calf and feels he could begin playing in minor league spring training games by the end of next week. However, the team does not want to rush him back to action so the possibility still exists that he could start the season on the disabled list.

INFs Joshua Wilson and Drew Sutton are likely to replace Wilson as utility infielders until he returns. SS Andrelton Simmons could hang around in camp longer as a result.

Atlanta Braves OF Michael Bourn and SS Tyler Pastornicky are the only projected starting positions players who have yet to report to spring training. However, it is still four days before non-catcher position players are due in. Pastornicky is working out with SS Jack Wilson in California, while Bourn has been working out with the University of Houston baseball team.
