Yankees | Chase Headley out Thursday

Thu, 21 Jul 2016 08:11:32 -0700

New York Yankees 3B Chase Headley (personal) is out of the lineup again Thursday, July 21, and 3B Alex Rodriguez is hitting seventh. 3B Ronald Torreyes is hitting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: A-Rod has struggled all year, but he is hitting .368 with five homers in 19 career at-bats against Chris Tillman. He's worth a speculative flyer today. Torreyes is hitting just .224 and warrants little consideration.

Yankees | Alex Rodriguez sitting vs. Orioles

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 12:37:29 -0700

New York Yankees DH Alex Rodriguez is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, July 20. OF Aaron Hicks draws into the lineup in right field and is batting ninth against Baltimore Orioles SP Yovani Gallardo Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Rodriguez started five consecutive games and went 2-for-16 with four walks. It's basically what to expect from the veteran, and he's no longer a viable fantasy asset outside of cavernous mixed and AL-only setups. Hicks is down to a .197/.261/.301 slash line, and at this point, he's nothing more than a desperation fantasy option.

Yankees | Mark Teixeira sitting out

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 13:45:34 -0700

New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira (foot) is not in the starting lineup against Baltimore Orioles SP Vance Worley Tuesday, July 19. 2B Rob Refsnyder will start at first base, while OF Carlos Beltran will start in right field. 3B Alex Rodriguez will serve as the designated hitter and is batting fifth.

Fantasy Tip: Rodriguez has only four hits in 21 at-bats this month and is not a great fantasy option in most leagues. Beltran should be used in all starting lineups, while owners probably will be able to find better options than Refsnyder to use.

Yankees | A-Rod smacks 696th home run

Mon, 18 Jul 2016 20:49:09 -0700

New York Yankees DH Alex Rodriguez went 1-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run Monday, July 18, against the Baltimore Orioles. The homer was his 696th of his career.

Fantasy Tip: Rodriguez is hitting just .216 with nine homers and 29 RBIs on the season, a far cry from his stellar 2015 numbers. He is only worth a look in deeper AL-only fantasy leagues at this point.

Yankees | Alex Rodriguez won't get starts at 1B

Mon, 18 Jul 2016 16:01:39 -0700

New York Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez will not be getting starts at first base during the team's series against the Baltimore Orioles while 1B Mark Teixeira (foot) is sidelined. Manager Joe Girardi said he plans on sticking with 2B Rob Refsnyder at the position.

Fantasy Tip: Refsnyder might be getting more playing time for as long as Teixeira is out, but he's not someone worth rushing to the waiver wire for, as he has a very limited ceiling. Rodriguez could ultimately see starts at first down the road, which would bump his stock up a bit, but the fact remains that he's been a disaster in 2016.

Yankees | Alex Rodriguez practicing at first base

Fri, 15 Jul 2016 14:47:53 -0700

New York Yankees DH Alex Rodriguez is taking repetitions at first base, and manager Joe Girardi said Rodriguez looks "fairly comfortable" at the position.

Fantasy Tip: It's been a nightmare season for Rodriguez, and he isn't worth rostering outside of cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues. The veteran currently has just 18 runs, eight home runs, 28 RBI and a .220/.260/.382 slash line, which doesn't cut it in the majority of mixed settings.

Yankees | A-Rod in Friday lineup

Fri, 15 Jul 2016 12:24:03 -0700

New York Yankees DH Alex Rodriguez is in the starting lineup Friday, July 15, against the Boston Red Sox. OF Rob Refsnyder is on the bench and OF Carlos Beltran is back in right field against Red Sox SP Steven Wright.

Fantasy Tip: With four hits in his last seven games, A-Rod is still a risky fantasy play so the best bet is to leave him alone. Beltran has much better numbers (.299-19-56) so he should be in your lineup.

Yankees | Alex Rodriguez getting 1B work

Mon, 11 Jul 2016 04:23:44 -0700

New York Yankees DH Alex Rodriguez will take grounders at first base over the All-Star break and continue to work at the position once the season resumes.

Fantasy Tip: Because Carlos Beltran is full-time DH for the most part, A-Rod hasn't seen much action in the field or in the lineup. This still isn't enough to recommend Rodriguez play on a regular basis, but it may be enough to get recognition in DFS formats if Rodriguez's bat warms up.

Yankees | A-Rod out of Friday lineup

Fri, 08 Jul 2016 13:01:58 -0700

New York Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez is not in the starting lineup Friday, July 8, against the Cleveland Indians. OF Carlos Beltran will handle designated hitter duties and bat third against Indians SP Corey Kluber. 2B Rob Refsnyder is in right field and will bat ninth.

Fantasy Tip: With Beltran able to DH against righties, Rodriguez can take a seat. Beltran (.293-19-54) is a must play in all formats, and Refsnyder has six hits in his last seven games and could be a low-cost flyer in DFS formats.

Yankees | Alex Rodriguez back on bench

Wed, 06 Jul 2016 15:01:12 -0700

New York Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez is back on the bench against the Chicago White Sox and SP Miguel Gonzalez Wednesday, July 6.

Fantasy Tip: Because of A-Rod's struggles this year (.220-8-28), he's essentially been relegated to a bench role against right-handed pitchers. The power potential is there, but it's hard to justify keeping a roster spot for him in mixed leagues with dwindling playing time.
