The Associated Press reports Major League Baseball has suspended Detroit Tigers IF Neifi Perez for 80 games because he tested positive for a banned stimulant for the third time. Perez is the only player that has been suspended since baseball instituted a ban on stimulants in 2006.

Guillen was replaced by SS Neifi Perez late in the game, however, it was not believed to be because of anything serious.

The Detroit News reports three players are in contention for the final spot on the 25-man roster, as it appears to be a decision between SS Neifi Perez, IF Ramon Santiago and 1B Chris Shelton. "We just have to figure out which way we're better," Tigers manager Jim Leyland said. "There's value in all three, that's part of it, but we're also trying to look into the future and see what makes the most sense." A decision is expected on March 26.
