Former Cincinnati Reds SS Barry Larkin was elected to the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame Monday, Jan. 9, with 86 percent of the vote.

According to The Baltimore Sun, Roberto Alomar is among 15 first-time candidates on this year's Hall of Fame ballot. Edgar Martinez, Barry Larkin and Fred McGriff also are new to the ballot this year. There are 26 candidates, three more than last year. Also on the ballot for the first time are Kevin Appier, Ellis Burks, Andres Galarraga, Pat Hentgen, Mike Jackson, Eric Karros, Ray Lankford, Shane Reynolds, David Segui, Robin Ventura and Todd Zeile.

Mark Sheldon, of Reds.MLB.com, reports the Cincinnati Reds will induct four members into the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame, including former SS Barry Larkin, OF Cesar Geronimo, P Joey Jay and front office executive Garry Herrmann.

Bill Ladson, of Washington.Nationals.MLB.com, reports former Cincinnati Reds SS Barry Larkin, now the assistant to Washington Nationals general manager Jim Bowden, will join the team for three days to help with their struggling offense. Entering their game Monday, July 16, the team was hitting a combined .250.

The Associated Press reports Cincinnati Reds 2B Ryan Freel stole his 30th base of the season Tuesday night, Sept. 6, giving him the honor of being the first Reds player to record back-to-back 30-steal seasons since Barry Larkin in 1995-96.

Nationals.MLB.com's Bill Ladson reports Washington Nationals special assistant Barry Larkin will not come out of retirement to play for the team this year. "He's going to dress and work out with the players because I believe that his leadership qualities can help this team," GM Jim Bowden said. "He going to take ground balls and hit in the cage. People are going to ask if he's coming back and the answer to that is no."
