Yankees | Derek Jeter says he'll be back

Thu, 25 Apr 2013 14:49:18 -0700

New York Yankees SS Derek Jeter (ankle) said "no doubt" that he'll be back playing this season, but he didn't offer a timetable for when that may be. "Whenever it heals, I'll be back," Jeter said. General manager Brian Cashman said that "95 percent" of players return from Jeter's condition.

Fantasy Tip: Jeter won't be back until after the All-Star break, which is troubling to the Bronx Bombers and those that had faith in Jeter repeating his sparkling 2012 season. If you don't have the room for Jeter in a DL spot on your roster in mixed leagues, it's probably safe to cut him loose and go in another direction.

Yankees | Derek Jeter to resume work in 4-8 weeks

Fri, 19 Apr 2013 11:51:42 -0700

New York Yankees SS Derek Jeter (ankle) will resume rehabbing his ankle in four to eight weeks after the new crack in his ankle heals completely. He will not need to undergo surgery but is expected to return after the All-Star break.

Fantasy Tip: The bottom line is that Jeter will likely now miss at least half the season, if not more. He's droppable in mixed leagues unless you're utilizing him in a DL spot. Don't expect the kind of production he spoiled his owners with last year when he eventually returns, either.

Yankees | Not bringing in another SS

Thu, 18 Apr 2013 13:57:47 -0700

New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said the team is comfortable with using SSs Eduardo Nunez and Jayson Nix to replace SS Derek Jeter (ankle).

Fantasy Tip: Nunez should be a popular addition in mixed leagues now that Jeter will be out for at least half the season. Scoop Nunez up if you own Jeter or are looking for better middle infield pieces. Nunez can contribute nicely in stolen bases and won't lose too much time to Nix, other than the occasional breather.

Yankees | Derek Jeter out until after All-Star break

Thu, 18 Apr 2013 13:22:33 -0700

New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman revealed Thursday, April 18, that SS Derek Jeter (ankle) has a small crack in the area of his previous ankle injury, and he'll be out until after the All-Star break now.

Fantasy Tip: The good news is that Jeter won't need surgery, which would most likely have ended his entire season. He'll need to rest to allow the crack in his ankle to heal. We warned drafters to take caution in relying on Jeter coming off this serious injury and surgery, and now he'll miss at least half the season. In mixed leagues, you can probably cut bait here, but you'll likely have to hang onto him in AL-only leagues if you have a DL spot available.

Eduardo Nunez's value continues to increase, and he's worth an addition as middle infield insurance in mixed formats. His defense looks to be much improved, which is a huge plus, and he can contribute nicely in the stolen base category.

Yankees | More on Derek Jeter

Tue, 16 Apr 2013 14:44:10 -0700

Updating a previous report, the New York Yankees are saying that when SS Derek Jeter (ankle) returns to game action in extended spring training, he will likely need close to a full spring training before he's ready to return to the majors. "He is not ready to play in games. I don't think they necessarily have an exact date where they know he is going to play in games. We'll just go day by day and see how he feels," manager Joe Girardi said.

Fantasy Tip: The news continues to be bleak on Jeter for owners that are hoping for a quick return. You can forget about all that now, and we wouldn't blame you if you dropped Jeter from your roster in shallow mixed leagues. He still has a long ways to go, folks.

Yankees | Derek Jeter not close to playing in games

Tue, 16 Apr 2013 13:09:29 -0700

New York Yankees SS Derek Jeter (ankle) is only taking grounders and batting practice, but he isn't close to getting into any rehab games. He's unlikely to return May 1.

Fantasy Tip: It would likely be a miracle if we were to see Jeter back with the Yanks on May 1. Plan accordingly. At his age, this isn't an easy injury to come back from at all. When he does return, expect Joe Girardi to rest him at any chance he gets. It could be a long season for No. 2, in the end. Don't expect similar numbers to what he put up last year when he comes back.
