New York Yankees SS Derek Jeter will be presented with the Lou Gehrig Memorial Award, presented by the Phi Delta Theta International Fraternity. The award is presented annually to a major league player who best exemplifies Gehrig's giving character, and has been issued since 1955.

The successful bid for the signing rights of Japanese SS Hiroyuki Nakajima by the New York Yankees is a likely sign manager Joe Girardi plans to give SS Derek Jeter more days off in 2012 from field duty. Jeter could be penciled in at DH once or twice a week.
