Mychael Urban, of MLB.com, reports the Oakland Athletics offered salary arbitration to free-agent SP Justin Duchscherer (Type B) Tuesday, Dec. 1, but declined arbitration for free-agent SP Brett Tomko, IF Nomar Garciaparra, SS Bobby Crosby and 2B Adam Kennedy. It is highly unlikely that Duchscherer will accept the team's offer.

The Oakland Tribune's Joe Stiglich reports Oakland Athletics 1B Nomar Garciaparra started at designated hitter and SS Bobby Crosby played third base, both likely playing their final games with the Athletics. Crosby went 1-for-2 and was replaced by IF Adam Kennedy in the sixth inning. Garciaparra went 2-for-3.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports Oakland Athletics 1B Nomar Garciaparra may yet be dealt to a contending team at the expiration of the waiver trade deadline Monday, Aug. 31. "After the deadline, if I'm here, I'll continue to help these guys do what they're doing," Garciaparra said. "Which is fine. There's nothing bad about it."
